At South Ocean, our 1000 people team is working hard to build a World Class Factory of sensors and transducers.  In almost 30 years, we have earned our name as one of the best sensor manufacturers in China.  Our products are highly praised by our customers in more than 30 countries.  We think this is just a good start.  We are aiming at being a leading World Class Factory (WCF) in the following 5 criterions:

1. Defect-free

South Ocean has high quality outputs, inputs and processes.  It has both low external failure (defects that escape the factory undetected) and low internal failure (defects discovered and fixed inside the factory). Our current dpm (Defects Per Million) is 300-1000 (0.03% - 0.1%). We achieve this number by eliminating most incoming inspection as we partner only with reliabel suppliers and using employing extensively fool-proofing equipment to prevent defects.  We have more than 40 sets test equipments, such as 600 ton numerical control hydraumatic standard tester, 100 ton lever tester, 20 ton dead weight tester, etc.  These machines and processes are made robust against their operator's inattention.  After sensing any defect produced or received, these smart machines switch off themselves and attract attention to itself with bells and lights to seek help. Moreover to further prevent defects from flowing downstream, our workers, all extensively trained on quality, are empowered to stop any line, machine or process than produce defects.  We are still improving our machines and workers performance.  Our goal is Six Sigma, which achieving 3-4 dpm (Defects Per Million).

2. Fast

We produce fast in terms of manufacturing lead time or turnaround time because of fast machines and workders and high capacity, and most of all, because we do less activities then ordinary factories to produce the same products.  Support groups like procurement and maintenance also cut our lead times - finding and selecting suppliers, responding to repair calls and fixing broken equipment.  Our support groups can achieve breakthrough records in cutting our cycle times from days to hours.

3. Lean

South Ocean is lean in the sense that we use much less resources than our conventional counterpart in producing sensors of the same quality and quantity.  With extremely high productivity and yield, we dramatically reduces inventories, space, machines, and even people and suppliers required to achieve the production target. In this way, we can pass our low cost to our customers.

4. Flexible

We have definite marketing and cost advantages with highly flexible and adaptive manufacturing systems.  We have the capability to produce products in high variety in very short set-up times - streamlining, reengineering and reinventing the set-up processes and procedures.

5. Environment-frendly

South Ocean not only operates efficiently, but also operates in a clean and safe environment - waste and pollution free.  We practices good housekeeping to keep our working environment orderly, clutter-free and less accident prone.  We are prepared and equipped to effectively deal with external and internal emergency situations such as fire, earthquake, explosion and accidents.  Our working area is surrounded with garden. We serve as a model corporate citizen in our community.
